TBRN* Artifact 001

Materials by themselves may be simply what they are. Their meaning emerges within their interplay with other materials.

For PR_01 in October of 2025, TBRN embarked on the first of it's ARTIFACT series: A set of tables that would be used during the performance to house DJ decks and art tools. Being the first made object, the focus was to distil the essence of TBRN into the tables unapologetically. They were first displayed on the 17th of October at Shadows Nightclub during PR_01, and later again, TB_02 was displayed at Arch Ball 2025 to present music equipment and decorate the set.

Materiality refers to the fundamental and unique characteristics of a material that help define it in our physical space. Attention to materiality help shape the visual, emotional, and functional experience of whatever it is applied to.

For TB_01 and TB_02, the two primary materials are timber and steel. Both materials are used extensively in the construction industry for their structural capabilities; however as materials, they could not be more different. One is sustainable and natural, one is unsustainable and man-made. The design leans into these differences in it's form and specific choice of materials. The timber was sourced specifically for it's natural bark edge to reinforce the natural aspects of it, and the legs in which the table-top sits on are straight and rational, leaning into more modernist aspects of steel.
